A contest day starts long before the band steps into the circle — tuning up, running through tune sets one last time, and getting the drum corps locked in with the pipes before the steward calls the band forward.
Between performances there's plenty of time to catch up with other bands on the field, swap notes with the judges afterwards, and cheer on the rest of the grades competing throughout the day.
